The Time is Now... (almost)

overcast 20 °C

It's only 2 weeks to go until the big off! We've dummy packed (not the lightest bags we've ever contemplated lugging around for most of the year), been jabbed up to eyeballs with all kinds of nasty diseases, and saved ourselves silly to get to this point, but finally, it's nearly here. The house is rented, the insurances are paid, and the jobs are almost packed in. We're a little nervous and apprehensive, but the excitement and expectation are generally outweighing those.

For those who don't know, we will be leaving the country on the evening of Sunday 3rd September, with a view to spending just under 11 months backpacking around as much of the world as our ticket, timeframe and spending money (appox £65 per day between us) will allow.

We start in South America, landing in Rio, Brazil and travelling overland for approximately 10 weeks, venturing south to Buenos Aires in Argentina via Uruguay, then back north into the Andes and through most of western Bolivia to La Paz, on to the Inca Trail and southern Peru, before finally making our way south to fly out of Santiago in Chile.

It's then onto New Zealand for a approx 1 month, before heading to Melbourne, Australia for mid-December, and a two week stay in Sydney for Christmas and New Year. After approximately three more months of touring Oz, we'll fly to Bali for a week or so.

The last leg of the tour will see us fly to Singapore, and begin a three month overland tour of Malaysia, Thailand and it's many islands, and hopefully some other regions in Indochina such as Laos, Cambodia or Vietnam. Finally, we'll make a quick stop in Hong Kong before returning to London in July '07 for some mild depression, an attack of reverse culture shock, and a small wedding.

Hopefully we won't bore you to tears with our stories, but please comment on our tales as and when you feel it appropriate. Writing tips ('shorten it' / 'stop it' etc) much appreciated.

So, that's the introduction done... first stop: Rio!!!
